Ambre Energy seeks community involvement in ambreCTL

Published on 03/08/2010

Local residents, businesses and other stakeholders are invited to join the liaison group which will guide consultation activities on Ambre Energy’s proposed coal-to-liquids project, ambreCTL, at Felton.

A community liaison group (CLG) will represent the views of landholders, the community, business, environmental groups and other interest groups and help shape consultation on the $3.5 billion project.

Ambre Energy’s General Manager Business Development and Marketing, Neil McGregor, said CLG membership would provide a valuable opportunity to those who wanted closer involvement with the project during the development of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

“The ambreCTL project is about producing local fuels from local coals, providing economic benefits for the region and greater fuel security for Queensland. Australia is becoming more reliant on fuel imports and this project will give us more independence and bring hundreds of jobs to the local area and attract new industries.

“Ambre Energy will develop an EIS to inform government decision-making processes and we need input from stakeholders who may be affected by the project to help us identify these potential impacts and ways of managing them,” Mr McGregor said.

“The CLG will provide a forum to discuss and exchange views. It will help us to ensure we provide adequate opportunities to people to find out about the project and contribute to EIS studies.

“The CLG for the Felton dimethyl ether project provided a valuable forum for discussions with the community and we thank members for their involvement.”

The proposed project includes a coal mine and unleaded petrol facility. Proven technologies will be used to convert low-value coals into high-value products such as unleaded petrol and LPG.

Mr McGregor said expressions of interest for the CLG would close at 5pm Friday 13 August 2010.

A CLG information kit can be obtained from info@feltonCLG.com.au or by calling 1800 262 285 (1800 AMB CTL).
