Ambre Energy seeks community involvement in Felton Project
Local businesses and individuals are invited to join a liaison group which will guide consultation activities on Ambre Energy’s proposed clean coal demonstration project at Felton, 10km from Pittsworth.
A community liaison group (CLG) is being established, likely to comprise about 12 to 15 people representing landholders, the community, business and interest groups.
Ambre Energy’s Director Business Development, Michael van Baarle, said CLG membership would provide a valuable opportunity to those who wanted closer involvement with the project during the development of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
“Ambre Energy’s project is about powering the future through cleaner forms of energy. We believe the project is environmentally sound, will bring hundreds of jobs to the region and will attract new industries,” Mr van Baarle said.
“We will develop an EIS to inform the state government’s decision-making processes and we need input from local residents to help us identify all the potential impacts and ways to manage them.
“The CLG will provide a forum to discuss and exchange views, and will inform our consultation plan, so that we can provide adequate opportunity to people to find out about the project and to participate in the EIS studies.”
Ambre Energy’s project includes a coal mine and coal gasification plant. New technologies will be used to convert low-value coals into high-value products like fuels, chemicals and electricity.
Gasification of coal will produce a hydrogen-rich syngas, to fuel one of the world’s cleanest coal-fired power plants. The syngas will also be converted to a next generation fuel called dimethyl ether or DME - a low emission diesel substitute.
Mr van Baarle said expressions of interest for the CLG would close at 5pm Thursday, 2 April 2009.
Information on the CLG can be obtained from info@feltonclg.com.au or from community consultants, JTA Australia, on (07) 3268 6665. Ambre Energy staff will also be at the Toowoomba Show.
